What’s new

Google will shut down the Deep Research agent named deep-research-pro-preview-12-2025 on 23 October 2026. Google lists two replacements: deep-research-preview-04-2026 and deep-research-max-preview-04-2026.

Google also deprecated two Flash models. Requests to gemini-3.7-flash now go to gemini-3.8-flash. Requests to gemini-3.5-flash now go to gemini-3.6-flash.

Why it matters

This change is in the Gemini API. It affects people who call the Gemini API from their own scripts or apps. It is not a Gemini CLI release.

A script that still uses the old Deep Research agent stops working after 23 October.

How to try it

Search your own code for the old names. Google says to update the agent parameter in your interactions.create requests to one of the newer Deep Research agents. For gemini-3.7-flash, Google says to use gemini-3.8-flash. For gemini-3.5-flash, Google says you can move to gemini-3.6-flash or gemini-3.8-flash. Read the official changelog for the full details.
