What’s new
Codex CLI 0.162.0 came out on 8 October 2026. It adds tools that create and list managed Git worktrees. A worktree is a second working copy of your project folder. The tools work only when the worktrees feature is turned on.
You can now pin a task with the p key in the Command Center. The new /copy command copies a block of the transcript. Web links are now clickable in approval prompts and warnings.
Why it matters
Two tasks can work in two separate copies of your project, so they do not change the same files at the same time.
The release also lets custom model providers that follow the Responses format turn on live web access and remote compaction.
How to try it
Update Codex CLI to version 0.162.0 or newer. If you installed Codex with npm, this command installs the latest version: see the command below. Then read the 0.162.0 notes on the releases page.
npm install -g @openai/codexSource
