What it does

What it is

Google Workspace includes Drive, Gmail, Calendar, Sheets and Docs. This tool, called gws, lets you and your agent use all of them from one command line. The project also ships 95 skills that teach an agent how each service works.

Who it helps

People who want an agent to do office chores: list files, fill a sheet, find an email, check the calendar.

How to start

Install the tool, sign in once and try a read-only command such as listing your newest files. Add the skills when it works.

Be careful

It has real access to your account. Commands can delete or change data. Use a test account at first, ask for the smallest access and read each write command before you approve it.

How to install

npm install -g @googleworkspace/cli
brew install googleworkspace-cli
npx skills add https://github.com/googleworkspace/cli
gemini extensions install https://github.com/googleworkspace/cli

How to use it

Install the tool (the command is gws), sign in, then call it or let your agent call it, for example: gws drive files list --params '{"pageSize": 10}'. Add the skills so the agent knows each service.

What to watch out for

  • It signs in to your Google account and can read, change and delete mail, files and sheets.
  • Give it the smallest access that works. Start with read-only tasks.
  • The agent skills let an AI run these commands for you. Approve write commands one by one.

How we tested it

We installed it on an empty test computer on 12 Oct 2026. Partly tested: installed in a clean test system, but its main features need an account or key we did not use.

Test level

Sign-in is needed for any real call, so no Google data was touched. The Homebrew route, the skills install and the Gemini install were not run.

Technical details of the test
Date
12 Oct 2026
Method
Ran npx -y -p @googleworkspace/cli gws --help in a clean container with no account. The tool started and printed its usage text with the Drive, Sheets and Gmail examples. The repository holds 95 skill files that all have a name and a description, and its Gemini manifest is valid JSON.
