- Good for
- Build an app, Web developers
What it does
What it is
Expo is a popular toolkit for making phone apps with web skills. The Expo team wrote skills that teach an agent how Expo apps should be built: file-based routes, native UI, data loading, and how to ship to the app stores.
Who it helps
People who want to build an iPhone or Android app with an agent and do not know the Expo rules.
How to start
Install the plugin from the official marketplace. Open an Expo project. Ask for a small feature first and check it in the Expo Go app on your phone.
Be careful
Builds and store steps need accounts and can cost money. The agent runs project commands, so read them before you allow them.
How to install
claude plugin install expo@claude-plugins-officialcodex plugin add expo@openai-curatednpx skills@latest add expo/skills --skill '*'How to use it
In a new or existing Expo project, ask the agent for a feature, for example "add a settings screen with a tab bar". The skills guide it to the Expo way of doing routing, styling and builds.
What to watch out for
- Some skills run build and project commands (npm, expo, eas). Read each command before you approve it.
- Cloud builds and store uploads need an Expo account and may cost money. The skills do not hide that.

How we tested it
We installed it on an empty test computer on 12 Oct 2026. Partly tested: installed in a clean test system, but its main features need an account or key we did not use.
We did not create an app and we did not sign in to Expo. The Codex and npx lines were not run.
Technical details of the test
- Date
- 12 Oct 2026
- Method
- Added the official Anthropic marketplace and installed the expo plugin with the Claude Code command line in a clean container with no account. The install worked and the plugin showed as enabled. The folder held 24 skills, one hook file and one connector file. All 26 skill files in the repository have a name and a description.
