Animated explainer videos in styles

Animate

Claude Code skill that makes short animated explainer videos in styles like cut paper, riso print or pixel art, and shows you a storyboard first.

Works with
Claude Code
Good for
Graphic designers

What it does

Animate draws every frame in code and renders an MP4. You pick a visual style or give your own references, and it asks you to approve the story, sample frames and storyboard before spending time on the full video.

It can also match your own look by measuring palette and line weight from reference images.

Example prompts

  • "Make a 30-second riso-style explainer about how our app works"
  • "Use these three images as the style reference"
  • "Make a vertical and a square version of the same piece"

How to install

npm i -g playwright && npx playwright install chromium
/plugin marketplace add cth9191/animate
/plugin install animate@animate

How to use it

Ask for a short explainer on a topic; approve the story, look and storyboard before it renders.

Check it works

Type /plugin and confirm animate is listed.

Common problems

  • The plugin commands do not appear — the plugin loads when Claude Code starts — run /plugin to check it is installed and enabled, then restart Claude Code.
  • "command not found: ffmpeg" (or Playwright cannot start a browser) — the video tools are missing on your computer — install ffmpeg (on a Mac: brew install ffmpeg) and run npx playwright install chromium, then try again.

What to watch out for

  • Needs Node, Playwright and ffmpeg
  • Runs a headless browser and shell commands
  • Optional voice-over uses an ElevenLabs connector (sends script text out)

How we tested it

We installed it on an empty test computer on 13 Oct 2026. Installed and started in a clean test system. Not yet used in a real AI session.

Test level

Not run: "npm i -g playwright && npx playwright install chromium" (not a form the sandbox runs). Not yet used on real work.
