Feature Dev plugin (Anthropic)

Anthropic's feature-dev plugin adds three agents: one explores your code, one designs the change and one reviews it, in a seven-step workflow.

What it does

What it is

A subagent is a helper that your main agent can call for one job. The feature-dev plugin from Anthropic adds three helpers:

  • code-explorer reads your project and explains how a feature works today.
  • code-architect plans how the new feature should fit in.
  • code-reviewer checks the new code for bugs and mistakes.

The command /feature-dev runs all three in seven steps.

Who it helps

People who add features to an existing project and want a careful process instead of one big change.

Be careful

The agents can edit files. Work in a project you can restore. The process takes longer and uses more of your usage limit than a single request.

How to install

/plugin install feature-dev@claude-plugins-official

How to use it

Type /feature-dev followed by what you want, for example /feature-dev Add user login with OAuth. The agents explore the code, ask you questions, design the change, build it and review it.

What to watch out for

  • The agents read your code and can edit files in the project. Use a project under version control.
  • The workflow asks many questions and uses helper agents, which use more of your usage limit.

How we tested it

We installed it on an empty test computer on 12 Oct 2026. Installed and started in a clean test system. Not yet used in a real AI session.

Test level

We did not run the /feature-dev workflow with a model. We did not judge the quality of the agents' advice.

Date
12 Oct 2026
Method
Added the official Anthropic marketplace and installed feature-dev with the Claude Code command line in a clean container with no account. The plugin showed as enabled and the folder held 3 agent files (code-explorer, code-architect, code-reviewer). All 3 have a name and a description.
