Google Docs and Gmail for Gemini

Gemini CLI Workspace extension

An extension that lets Gemini CLI read and write your Google Docs, Drive files, Calendar and Gmail after you sign in with your Google account.

Works with
Gemini CLI
Good for
Daily work and research, Everyone

What it does

This extension connects Gemini CLI to Google Workspace. The agent can then find documents, read and write Docs and Sheets, check your calendar and work with email.

Who it helps

People who live in Google Workspace and want to ask for things in plain words instead of clicking through many pages.

How to start

Install the extension. Sign in with Google when asked. Start with a read-only task such as "list my five newest documents".

Be careful

This is access to personal or company data. The agent can also change or delete things. Use a test account first. An email or a file can contain text that tries to steer the agent. Do not ask for bulk actions without a check.

How to install

gemini extensions install https://github.com/gemini-cli-extensions/workspace

How to use it

After install, sign in with your Google account when the extension asks. Then ask in plain words, for example "find the budget sheet in my Drive and summarise it" or "what is on my calendar tomorrow".

What to watch out for

  • It signs in to your Google account and can read your mail, files and calendar. It can also change them.
  • Use a test account or limit the access you grant. Check what each permission means before you click allow.
  • Content that comes from a file or an email can contain hidden instructions for the agent.

How we tested it

We installed it on an empty test computer on 12 Oct 2026. Partly tested: installed in a clean test system, but its main features need an account or key we did not use.

Test level

Sign-in is required for any real use, so no tool was called. Gemini CLI was not installed in the sandbox.

Cloned the repository in a clean container with no account. The extension file gemini-extension.json is valid JSON, and the repository holds 7 skill files that all have a name and a description. We did not install the extension in Gemini CLI and we did not sign in.
