Remember past sessions

claude-mem

A plugin that records what your agent did in past sessions, compresses it, and brings the useful parts back in later sessions. Stored on your computer.

Works with
Claude Code, Codex CLI
Good for
Everyone, Daily work and research

What it does

The problem

Each new agent session starts empty. You must explain the project again. claude-mem tries to fix this. It keeps notes about earlier sessions and gives the useful ones to the new session.

How it works

Hooks, which are small scripts that run at set moments, watch a session. A worker program compresses the record into short notes. When you start again, the notes are added to the context.

Who it helps

People who work on the same project for weeks.

Be careful

This tool records your work. Know where the data lives and what it contains. A background worker runs on your computer. Do not use it with confidential projects before you read its privacy notes.

How to install

/plugin marketplace add thedotmack/claude-mem
/plugin install claude-mem
npx claude-mem install

How to use it

Install it, then work as usual. It records sessions in the background. Later sessions start with a short summary of earlier work. You can search the past with its memory tools.

What to watch out for

  • Hooks record what you and the agent do, including file names and parts of your prompts. Treat the memory store like a diary of your work.
  • It runs a background worker on your computer and may call a language model to compress notes, which uses your usage limit.
  • Do not use it on projects that hold secrets or client data unless you checked where the data is saved.

How we tested it

We installed it on an empty test computer on 12 Oct 2026. Partly tested: installed in a clean test system, but its main features need an account or key we did not use.

Test level

We did not run the background worker or record a real session, so we did not see what it stores. Check the storage folder yourself after the first day.

Technical details of the test
Date
12 Oct 2026
Method
Added the marketplace and installed the plugin with the Claude Code command line in a clean container with no account. The plugin showed as enabled, and the folder held 23 skills, one hook file and one connector file. We also ran npx -y claude-mem --help, which printed the install options for version 13.35.0. The worker was not started.

Checked again on 12 Oct 2026
